Evaluating Security Equipment
NEW PROGRAM ARRANGEMENTS
At its March 2011 meeting, the Security Construction and Equipment Committee (SCEC) endorsed a new approach to the evaluation and publication of security products for use within the Australian Government.
SCEC intends to publish a Security Equipment Evaluated Product List (SEEPL) instead of the current Security Equipment Catalogue (SEC). Like the SEC, the SEEPL will be developed for the benefit and assistance of Australian Government agencies. The SEEPL is intended to be limited to those products assessed as meeting the requirements for high, administrative or specialised security categories, although SCEC reserves the right to include other products in the national security interest. SCEC also expects to develop best practice guidelines which the Australian Government may use when procuring certain products outside the SEEPL.
The current equipment evaluation program will be suspended for up to 12 months from 6th June 2011. During the suspension period, new applications received by SCEC will not be progressed, the evaluation program will be reconfigured to allow for continued testing of products within the high, administrative and specialised-security categories in line with the Australian Government’s priorities, and products will be progressively added to the SEEPL.
